Michigan Saves is now enrolling authorized contractors for the Michigan Saves Home Energy Loan Program. This opportunity is available for contractors performing energy audits and/or installing energy efficiency improvements in any of the following 36 counties:

Allegan, Barry, Calhoun, Clare, Clinton, Eaton, Genesee, Gladwin, Gratiot, Hillsdale, Ingham, Ionia, Isabella, Jackson, Kalamazoo, Kent, Lapeer, Lenawee, Livingston, Macomb, Mecosta, Midland, Missaukee, Monroe, Montcalm, Muskegon, Oakland, Osceola, Ottawa, Roscommon, Saginaw, Shiawassee, St. Clair, Van Buren, Washtenaw, Wayne

Highlights of the Michigan Saves Home Energy Loan Program

Affordable rates and terms:

  • Loans of $1,000 to $12,500 at fixed rate of no more than 7 percent
  • Terms of one year per $1,000 up to $4,999; customer can pick term up to 10 years for loans $5,000 and higher

Easy process:

  • No home equity required (unsecured loans)
  • Web and phone-based loan application system with quick decisions (within minutes) to facilitate "dinner table" sales

Eligibility:

  • Available for owner-occupied, single-family (1–4 unit) homes (primary residence only)
  • Qualifying energy efficiency improvements must be à la carte improvements pre-qualified by Michigan Saves or improvements recommended by a comprehensive, whole-home energy assessment conducted by a certified auditor

Michigan Saves will assess a 1.99 percent contractor fee, payable on a monthly basis, to support quality assurance and sustain program operations.

There is a one-time non-refundable application fee of $25 to apply to become a Michigan Saves authorized contractor.  The fee for paper applications will go up to $50 after the online system is available in late summer. 

After your application is accepted, you will be notified of available training dates and locations. The half-day program training sessions will begin in late summer. Attendance at the training is required to participate in this program.
